Pre-Bent Polished Axles

Used to easily adjust the alignment of your car or to use the rail riding technique

These axles are bent slightly where the axle exits the block. The steering on your pinewood derby car can be adjusted by rotating the axle while it is in the slot. Two angles are available. 1.5 degree bend is recommended for the front axles and 2.5 degree bend for the rear axles. These are sold as single axles. Instructions on using our Pre-Bent Axles

Axle Pliers

Car alignment can be adjusted by rotating the bent axle while it is in the block. Our Axle Pliers are highly recommended for rotating the axles. It will not damage the axle head like pliers can.

Our Stainless Steel Axles are similar to the official BSA axles but they have the following additional benefits:

The axle diameter is larger at the wheel but standard size where it fits into the car block reducing friction and wobble.

Back of axle head is tapered to reduce friction with the wheel.

Custom Official Pinewood Derby Wheels

The fastest wheels possible for your race

Your local race rules may restrict the kinds of modifications that can be made to your wheels. Here you can select the modifications that are allowed by your rules. The result will be the fastest possible wheels for your race. In general, the more modifications that you select, the faster your car.

Matched Wheels

Several different molds are used to make the wheels. Wheels from the same mold have the same characteristics. Your car will be a little faster if all four wheels are from the same mold. The mold number is on the inside of the wheel.

Domed Outer Hub

The axle head rides on a step on the outer hub of the wheel. This step causes extra friction because the wheel is in contact with the outer part of the axle head where the distance traveled for each rotation is greater. A domed hub moves the contact point to the inside of the axle head, reducing friction.

cannot be modified. (we do not modify the inner hub)

Smooth Wheel Tread

High spots on the wheel tread will cause your car to bounce as it goes down the track causing friction. Our lightly sanded wheels removes the high spots eliminating most of the bounce. Even with the high spots removed, the wheel is slightly oval shaped. Our lathed wheels removes the oval and makes the wheels round to within .001".

Graphite Coating

Our special bonding process coats the friction areas of the wheel with a thin coat of graphite. This graphite will last many races giving you an edge over cars with loose graphite. Our tests have shown no reduction in speed after more than 20 races! The areas of the wheel coated with graphite have a dark gray color slightly different than the color of the wheel.

Not legal in races that specify that wheels cannot be impregnated with graphite or Graphite cannot be bonded to the wheels.

Lite BSA Wheels

Our Lite Wheels are official BSA wheels with the following modifications:

Plastic has been removed from the inside to make them lighter.
The tread has been lathed so that it is flat and the wheel is round to within .0005".
The hub is reamed straight
The inside rim edge has been trimmed smooth.

Lite wheels are faster because less energy is required to spin them.

These wheels have been modified by Derby Worx. More on how these wheels are made.

Pro Inertia Lite BSA wheels

This is the wheel for you if your rules state that the lettering and numbering inside the wheel cannot be removed. This wheel only weighs 1.8 gram.

Cylinder Weights

Cylinders are typically inserted in your car by drilling one or more holes in the back, bottom or side of the car then the holes are sealed with wood putty.

Lead Wire Weights

These weights are made from lead. This makes them dense and easy to work with but lead is toxic and should be installed inside your car. It is best to use gloves when handling lead. Each weight is 1/4" diameter and can be easily cut to any length. To install, drill one or more 9/32 " holes in the back, bottom or side of your car, insert the weights in the holes then glue them into place or cover with wood putty.

Adjust the center of gravity of the car by rotating the disc.

Use the Pro Wheel Shaver to remove high spots and other imperfections from your wheel and make the wheel rounder .
