We had the pinewood derby race last Sunday and am happy to report that the car that my son Ross entered won first place in our troop. What was interesting was that we won all four heats by more than a car length each time. I am sure that there were a number of factors that went in to Ross's car winning including the design of the car (it was aerodynamically sleek), we carefully located the weight with some of the weight we purchased from you internally inserted, and most of it located towards the rear of the car, (our car weighted exactly 5.0 oz), but I am also sure that the products that we purchased from you contributed to the performance of this car.
For instance, we purchased the Axle Installer to help keep the axels at the proper alignment to the car and have the wheels at the correct space from the body of the car. This alone I think made a big change in the performance of the car - I used the axle installer to check a car we had built in a prior year (we took second in that year) and found that the axels were not lined up properly and the wheels were touching the car. We also used a lot of graphite - and I know that this alone made a big difference in the speed of the car. I know that other scouts did not spend the time or put the thought in to the design of their pinewood derby cars that we did - but it was a fun father/son project.
